Topics of social exclusion and inclusion have come up a lot on this blog. I’ve written about the negative physical and psychological effects of being excluded, the role that culture plays in our reactions to exclusion, and how Tylenol even helps people deal with being excluded. On the other side, I’ve written about how important social support can be in times of stress. Finally, I’ve written about how anti-gay prejudice, white privilege, and dehumanizing people stand as impediments to social inclusion.
So it’s no surprise that a group at the University of New England reached out to me recently to tell me about their new infographic, “The Importance of Social Inclusion.“ They’ve pulled together a ton of research and made this engaging visual overview of social exclusion’s nasty effects and what we, as a society, can do to make our social world more inclusive. Check it out below! And for more great infographics from this group, just check out their website.
